This comes as an absolute surprise to me. Not that the Scion Hako Coupe is going to be released or the fact that the car is all set to make its way in front of those techno-geeks at the New York Auto Show. It is just the sheer fact that it is not there at the Geneva Motor Show and that either indicates that the company is aiming to sell this to the Americans or the design and working teams on this car have just missed the boat by a week or two. I hope it is the former as if it is the later, then it must have left some pretty hot heads in the board room. Now this is not to say that the New York Auto Show is not important (So please don’t start a trans-pacific war in the comments section)
The company released few details on the new concept, other than to write in the news release: “The sporty interpretation of the box concept was developed by Tokyo Design Division which studied global, youth-inspired trends.” That statement could describe almost any Scion model. This leaves us with a very little knowledge of what is coming out of the pipe and I do believe that keeping the cover on it when it is still in the pipe is a very good strategy.
We can look forward to seeing the concept at the New York show because Scion concepts are few and far between. The picture Scion released is only a detail of the hood, but from it we can tell that this coupe has a blunt front end, like the Scion xB, with angular design cues in the body molding. LED head lights are also visible. Now you can start your own little jigsaw puzzle or forensic analysis and try reconstructing the rest of the car to match the front. That sure sounds like fun. Maybe I will give it a try... just maybe.
