Car navigation systems in Mercedes cars will now be powered by Google and Yahoo. This system will be available from September 5 for Mercedes S-class sedan, CL-class coupe and the entire 2008 C-class lineup.
The company has joined hands with Google and Yahoo to introduce a new navigation system, called ‘Search & Send’. Users of Google Maps and Yahoo Local Maps will be able to download these maps to their car via their computers or web-enabled cell phones.
A ’send to car’ icon will appear along with the maps, on the computers that have Mercedes’ software. Users can download these maps and send them to their car by pressing the ‘i’ button in the car. Maps can be stored and retrieved as and when desired.
The search & send system is Mercedes-Benz’s answer to rival BMWs Google based ConnectedDrive navigation package. Mercedes has made it easier to access by collaborating with Yahoo as well.
