Mazda and EarthSearch Communications are in the process of developing a new ‘vehicle-management device’ that will virtually put parents on the driver seat of their teenager’s car.
AutoSearchGPS Vehicle Management system is being tested as an add-on option in Mazda vehicles at five Atlanta dealerships. The system allows parents to keep an eye on teen drivers via computer or cell phones.
This system provides alerts to parents in case the driver moves out of a specified perimeter or speeds above the permissible limit. Moreover, parents can track the vehicle in real time and even disable the vehicle as soon as the driver turns off the ignition.
This Vehicle Management system costs $229, with an additional monthly charge of $19.99 over a two-year contract. Well, teenagers may not take kindly to this ‘espionage’, and it is probably not going to be used just for tracking teens.
