If ever there is car that virtually sells like hot cakes, the accolade has to go Daimler’s Smart ForTwo. Another amazing thing is the level of confidence Daimler has in this miniscule offering which gives the company the leisure of selling it with a bang irrespective of the market being a new one.
Daimler’s latest plan is to conquer the American market and believe me the company has no doubt the Smart will reign supreme in the small car segment in Uncle Sam’s territory. Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche is hopeful that the demand for Smart will exceed its supply which has put the company in dire straits regarding the annual production/sales target.
Going on sale in the US next year, the company will start with 50 dealerships which will increase to 65 in the first quarter and reach 74 by the end of the year. Also, the company is looking for a city to develop an all-electric version of the Smart, just the way they have London in the UK.
A diesel version is also in contention but there ain’t any specifications from the company as to when they will start developing a thorough product. Daimler hopes Smart will get profitable by the end of next year and I don’t doubt it either for the Americans are already in love with ForTwo.

For a country that likes big fast cars, I don’t think that the Americans would extend open arms for the Smart ForTwo. But that’s just my opinion.
