For all you small car enthusiasts, Daimler Chrysler has come up with a new edition of smart for two; cdi the diesel version. Unbelievable, the company claims that it will do 100km in just 3.3lit.and also its Co2 emission is as low as 88g/km.

The all new smart for two cdi has an improved 799cc engine that develops 45bhp of power with 81lb ft of torque. It enables to reduce the fuel consumption to about 13% and enhances both power and torque by 10%.

The engine uses a new CRDI system which builds high injection pressure even at low revs. With a newly developed six hole injector the combustion process has become more proficient .A two phase fuel injection has been adopted from CDI engines of its sister brand Mercedes which has a quieter combustion noise level.

It has a smarter engine, with an engine control unit that calculates requirement of fuel and the gap at which pilot injection and main injection should take place .The smart car accelerates from 0 to 100 in 19.8sec., with a top speed of 135km/h .With the use of lightweight materials, its engine weighs 86kgs .The three cylinder diesel engine controls emission in two stages .Depending on the driving conditions and the engine load, 60% of previously cooled exhaust gas is returned to the combustion chamber and combusted once again reducing nitrogen oxide emission by a margin making it a more green .The smart for two cdi is a Euro IV compliant.

The engine works with a newly developed automated manual five speed transmission which can be operated by briefly tapping the shift lever .Shift paddles on the steering are optional and standard in pulse model line , automatic transmission mode is also available..

It is one of the safest cars in its class, with anti lock breaking system, electronic brake force distribution , electronic stability programmer, brake assist, full size air bags for driver and passengers, seat belts with belt tensioners and belt force limiters , safety seats with integral seat belts and tridion safety cell .
