Spyker has had a lot on its hands this year, buying an F1 team, financial trouble, selling the F1 team to an Indian businessman and announcing that its C12 Zagato supercar would not go into production. Now, the company has another plan on the table, a production version of the D12 sports SUV which was displayed as a concept at the Geneva Motors Show in 2006.
Reports say Spyker may decide to move away from Volkswagen’s 6.0-L W12 engines and get another powerplant, perhaps of American origin. The engine in question may come from GM in the shape of 500hp V8 or Viper’s 600hp V10 from Chrysler. Volkswagen will stop production of the W12 in a couple of years and this would hamper the D12 if it used them.
Also, importing engines from America could prove good financially for the Dutch manufacturer in view of the depreciating US dollar and strong Euro. To go a step further, Spyker’s next gen C8 coupe will also be powered by American muscle as the 400hp from Audi 4.2-L V8 is not very pleasing to Victor Muller, the CEO of Spyker.
