This is the first time I stand informed on Steve McQueen, the biker. Everyone knows Steve McQueen the actor, very well.

The Great Escape star who succumbed to mesothelial cancer in 1980, was a great fan of Triumph motorcycles. Introduced by his friend Keenan Wynn and befriending Bud Ekins, Triumph dealer, he went one to become a desert racer in California in the early 1960s.
Together, Ekins and McQueen participated at the American riders in the International Six Days Trial held in Soviet East Germany in 1964 - mounted on nothing less than Triumph Trophy motorcycles.
If you have seen The Great Escape then you must have spotted the bike. It was specially designed by Ekins who went on for the stunts as well.
