It isn’t just Australia where hoons are going to get their cars crushed and the video posted on the internet, street racers in California are likely to meet the same fate. Recently, a California judge ordered that the souped up car of a street racer be crushed.
Clifford Sung, an 18-year old resident of Lakewood, was stopped by Long Beach police after they noticed telltale signs of street racing on his 1995 Honda Civic hatchback. The vehicle had an illegally modified exhaust system, fiberglass roof and a sway bar on the back of the car. An inspection under the hood revealed that the car was powered by a B18 CRI engine from Japan and the VIN had been chipped off the transmission.
Sung managed to get away with a misdemeanor charge while his car was crushed. Usually, before a car is crushed, the engine and other parts are stripped out but in this case the entire car was destroyed. The only thing Sung could get back from his car were the flashy rims but his lawyer declined that, not because Sung didn’t want them but because ‘his dad wouldn’t let him’.
The same guy was arrested a week after he settled the street racing case in court, charged for felony auto theft. Things are not going to be smooth for him this time.
