Students of engineering at the Swarthmore College, Alex Bell and Andres Pacheco have created a motorcycle, powered by hydrogen. Built on the chassis of a Buell Cyclone, the motorcycle uses fuel cells from Ballard, which can generate 1.6kW of power; and is coupled with a 1.6hp electric motor.

Hydrogen for the bike is not stored as compressed air, as is usually the case. The gas is stored in two metal hydride tanks that can store about 900 std. liters of Hydrogen. Hydrogen from these metal hydrides can be released easily, it however, does need some heat. Storage of hydrogen in low pressure can be a great positive for this bike. The makers put the efficiency of the bike in the range of 46 percent.
