There are times when imitation really gets a bit of a stick, but there are times when you know that it is just a wonderful attempt to capture the magic of the past. The all new real like replica of 1971 55 Spyder is surely something that reminds most of us of James Dean or at least should. Well, this one is not something that is too fast to live and unlike Dean the idea is not something that will die young. The all new replica is pretty good and while you will have to spend a fortune for it, it still is very much worth it.
The Subaru swap was a creative flat-4 solution for Porsche 914’s, but this is the first one we’ve seen in a 550. The exterior of this example looks very nice with the black fender darts and 15″x5.5″ alloy wheels form Alex Bivens at West Coast Haus. These are a great look on this car. The interior is well executed in period style, even if the water temp gauge is a little off-putting at first. Our only change would be the street-rod-spec rear-view mirror. The engine looks modern and complicated, but would be amazing to feel under your right foot at speed.
While the replica is awesome, if you want something to do with it then get down to eBay and start with your bid. You can rest assured that you are getting as good a replica as any.
