While you are behind the steering wheel of your car, you can receive calls easily using ‘hands free’. But, sending text messages is something you’d rather avoid while behind the wheel. Now, things are about to change, thanks to Microsoft and voice recognition expert Nuance.
The duo has teamed up to develop a system that will translate spoken words into text for SMS; plans are afoot to make it compatible with e-mail as well. The software is likely to get into vehicles early next year.
The latest Mercedes C-Class already includes a system by the name of COMAND; this system reads out incoming messages and accepts verbal entry for sat-nav destinations.
Ford uses the same technology in the US and it is considering sending the same across the Atlantic to Europe with the speech to text facility incorporated.
