According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, new cars and its high-tech safety features have helped lessen auto related deaths over the past 12 years. Though it credits technology for lessening auto accidents, yet the IIHS cannot help accusing bad driving behaviors like drunken driving, speeding and not using seatbelts for still causing major traffic deaths-but it believes these are ones that an be rectified through steeper penalties, public education, etc.

At the same time, the IIHS could not help mentioning how new car models have been able to score only slightly better than older ones in Crash Test. While the 2007 Toyota Camry scored ‘good’ in high-speed frontal offset and side impact crash test, yet it secured only ‘marginal’ rating in case of rear-end crashes. Though the 2007 Dodge Caliber is esteemed more than the Neon in case of safety features, yet it managed only average ratings in side and rear crashes.
