For all you concept car fans out there, here is the definitive machine where the entire concept car story took shape, the Buick Y-job. The genius of the legendary design chief Harley.J.Earl, the Y-job was the first ever concept car, and this way back in the late thirties, 1938 to be spot on. The long, low Y-job looked fast even while standing still.
This courtesy the ’speed lines’ that ran along the fenders. And if you thought the Y-job is one more, old antique which was path breaking in it’s heyday, time to do some serious rethinking. The Y-job manages to remain very contemporary even in this day with many of it’s styling elements like the hidden headlamps and the metal hatch cover for the convertible top, seen in some of the 21’st century Buick’s.
And how can anyone forget the legendary buick front, chromed grille with which you can spot a Buick from a mile away. And for all those who love Buick for it’s long low stance, now you know where it all began, way back in 1938 with the Y-Job. The Y-job is one concept car which just refuses to become irrelevant, no matter how old it gets. Talk about being evergreen. The Y-job is every bit of it.
