I came across an interesting narrative about the new trend of car colors on CNN and thought about sharing it with you for more than one good reason. This narrative garishly describes how the camouflaging colors have gained magnitude over a period and every big name in the automotive world wants to furnish this facility to maintain the six-sigma level of production.

The author has jotted down his avid discussions with various Auto Design experts from top brands and all of them have revealed there future plans regarding the incorporation of the camouflaging color scheme.

Color shifting pigments aren’t the latest but, off late they have entered mainstream traffic in increased numbers. The camouflaging act is a courtesy of the multiple layers of color coating embedded with the metal flakes underneath the clear coat.

These multiple layers are each of different colors and the interior most coat is a translucent one and it is this layer, which is mixed with the aluminum, flakes which themselves act as color or several colors.

Chris Webb, General Motors Exterior Color and Trend Designer described this above-mentioned method of coloring. Webb mentioned that currently the orange color is more in demand and he has developed orange products until 2010.

Speaking of the naturals the brown and beige are in demand as these two colors have benefited big time from these latest technologies. Jane Harrington, manager of color styling for PPG’s automotive coatings division also believes that brown has spurred back in demand as of a consequence of these innovations.

Toyotas’ Scion xB launched last year also performs the camouflaging act. Another big name actively involved in adopting, and evolving this technology is Ford. The Blue Oval is interested in the black color and they want to give it a new dimension, which is more special and delighting as cited by Susan Lampinen, Fords’ Chief Designer for color and materials.

He also mentioned that Ford wants to be the leader in Black. This statement from the Ford Design Chief is a significant one as it symbolizes that colors have gained astounding importance over the last few years, indeed better colors are the new bone of contention for the automakers.
