General Motors will soon stop making its macho brand, the Hummer H1. For Hummer fans, it will be a disappointment to learn that GM has disclosed its intention to end the vehicle last Friday. The vehicle was born in 1992 and witnessed sales of 12,000 pieces so far.
The company claims that rising gas prices and environmentalists criticism did not account for their closure. However, it could be the downward trend in sales: From 447 in 2004 to 374 in 2005 that has caused this action.
Hummer general manager Martin Walsh states the reason:
It’s a reflection of where we’re going with the Hummer brand. The Hummer DNA still resides in the Humvee. ... It will always be the core from where we come.
According to GM, the last H1s will be built next month.
