How about painting the town red in a car that won the most beautiful roadster award way back in the 80s? Yes, we are talking about the California Star roadster which was completely hand-built by Don Varner and Ron Covell. Coming to it’s looks, this red roadster looks vaguely similar to an F1 car with its pointed hood and scallops on the sides. Aluminum abounds this car making it very revolutionary since we are talking about the 80’s when steel was the material of choice in the automobile industry. Complementing this car’s racy looks, you have some nice bits of automobile engineering in the form of a rack and pinion steering derived from the legendary Porsche 911.

Beneath the hood, you will find a turbocharged six pot mill that will give you some serious push. Transmission, in true American style is a three speed unit and the engine is tricked out with custom made valve covers, pulleys and headers. But, the best part really is the fact that this roadster has been sitting in a trailer for the better part of two decades and thus has clocked just 4 miles. So, that makes it almost brand new although there might be a few issues to sort out as this baby hasn’t hit the roads for quite some time now. The California Star is currently open for bidding on eBay and the bidding starts at $75,100. That’s pretty much in the ballpark considering the California Star’s glorious history.
