Francesco Russo wants to break the record for the fastest human powered vehicle. To do just that, he had ganged up with designers Hersteller and Farher to build the very sleeking looking Ristretto. This speed machine is long, low, fast and more importantly pedal powered. To get to the insane speeds required to break the speed record for human powered vehicles, the designers have given the Ristretto a ground hugging, two piece form sculpted out of ultra light carbon composites.

To reduce drag, the Ristretto has a very narrow front end and this speed machine rides on two wheels that sit dangerously close to the rider. Talking about the rider, Francesco Russo will have to lie in almost a sleeping poistion inside the Ristretto and start pedalling furiously to clock world record breaking speeds on this machine. Meanwhile, the long and lithe Ristretto has already clocked speeds of 85 to 92 kmph. That’s fast, very fast considering the fact that Russo’s butt will be barely a few inches from hard tarmac. Let’s wish Russo and his team all the very best in their endeavor to break the world speed record.

Just curious on how this stuff be the fastest human powered vehicle trying to beat the normal cars? Uhm, sounds interesting.. And what is the fuel mileage of this car?
