The Beast:
The MINI factory is now retooling to produce the convertible, which has now been revealed through a series of leaked images. The second-generation MINI Convertible will not deviate too far from the first generation car, with styling closely related to its hard-top counterpart.

The Machine:
One of the most noticeable visual change in the new convertible is the use of pop-up roll hoops instead of the fixed units featured on the old car. This change should provide the same amount of protection for occupants in the event of a rollover crash, but will allow for greater rearward visibility as will a larger rear glass window. The less aggressive grille and an overall look that’s less sporty and more elegant. The “Always Open” gauge tells the driver the percentage of miles driven with the top open. The front bumper has revised intakes, repositioned fog lamps and more intricate detailing.

The Thrill:
The new paint and top colors outside and a new black chrome interior trim package inside makes it look extremely appealing. In case there are any takers, this brand new Mini Cooper will be due in March 2009.

Takers? I am sure this new variant is going to set better records than its predecessor. Small cars are gaining more ground and the MC, as always, will be a top priority.
By the way doesn’t your screen name Alpheus mean river god in Greek mythology? Or is it something else?? I know this is irrelevant, just a tad curious because I am big fan of mythology! Kindly entertain the rubbish :P Moving on to the topic, well I agree that the demand for small cars is huge. In fact this demand is forcing global car makers to rethink their plans on big fuel guzzlers and develop compact vehicles.
Well, that’s not just my screen name. That’s my real name :) And yes, you got it right with the Greek river God part.
Yes, like you said, global car makers are contemplating on phasing out gas-guzzlers like the Hummer. However, I dont see sense in sacrificing a great car at the altar of ’green living’. We already have quite a few compact car alternatives to take care of the common man’s commuting needs.
