It is easy to spot Ferrari’s mark on things that have nothing to do with the brand, all you need to buy is a sticker. This motorcycle, built by David Kay Engineering, is very different from that lot. It is the only motorcycle in the world that has Ferrari’s stamp of approval for prancing horse badge. In 1990, David Kay sent a letter to Piero Ferrari, asking his permission to create a motorcycle as tribute to the late Enzo Ferrari. Piero agreed, and the project moved ahead.
After 3000 man-hours and five years into the project, David Kay was able to produce a motorcycle that could live up to the legend of Ferrari. Power comes from a custom four-cylinder, 900cc DOHC engine that generates 105bhp and take the motorcycle to a top speed of 265 kmph. The 1995 Ferrari 900 has full aluminum bodywork, tubular chassis, Brembo disc brakes and 17-inch Astralite wheels.
Auction house Bonhams hopes that the only Ferrari of its kind will bring in about $300,000 when it’s auctioned on December 20.
