In these days of political correctness, driving around or for that matter, being driven around in a gas guzzler is the height of being politically incorrect. Now, to remedy that, Mercedes Benz has just outfitted their very successful executive sedan, the S class with a hybrid diesel engine. Mercedes Benz call this newest baby of their’s, the S300 Bluetec.
Hybrid technology and the diesel engine combine to give the S300 Bluetec a segment busting, eye-popping range of 43 miles per gallon. And, for all that frugality, if you ever thought the Bluetec wouldn’t have enough push beneath the bonnet to hustle up decent speeds on the freeways, er autobahns, you couldn’t be further off course.
224 horses combined with a pulling power of 413 lb/ft ensure that the Bluetec pulls like a locomotive and gets to a very respectable 150 miles per hour. This obviously makes the S300 one big, fast luxury liner which surprisingly is frugal and cares for the planet too. The S300 Bluetec will go on sale in Europe from 2010 and now if you were still wondering about the Autobahn thing, yes, Mercedes Benz haven’t announced the launch of the S300 Bluetec in the United States just as yet. For now, all you Americans can just sit back and pray that the Bluetec hits the US shores. And do watch this space.
