Experts have predicted an inevitable growth in the Indian diesel car sector. Therefore, many Indian luxury car producers have made big plans to move over to diesel models.
The fever has even caught automakers like Audi, BMW and Mercedes, who from now on will begin their diesel venture. Maruti and Hyundai, the top two automakers in India have from last year taken more interest in diesel technology. Maruti Udyog Limited have churned recently churned out diesel versions of the popular Zen and Esteem and a diesel version of Swift is also expected soon. Hyundai to counter the competition from Fiat and Maruti-Suzuki, will also launch a diesel variant of Getz, Santro, Verna, and Sonata models. Upcoming vehicles like the Chevrolet Captiva, Skoda Fabia and the Fiat Punto, are expected in diesel versions only.

The diesel car market has been growing in India in recent years. Suzuki Motor is known for petrol engine technology and does not manufacture diesel engines. It obtained diesel engine technology largely to meet the requirements of Indian customers.
