Ever been on a highway with those big trailer trucks heading your way or blocking your way? It can be the most frustrating thing in the world. You cannot at times go past them cos of traffic and they just do not get a move on. But you must also understand that they are pretty essential to the entire process of transporting goods and their presence is a must. Now anew system makes these semi-trailer trucks a lot more efficient and also a bit high tech.
An add-on system for making semi-trailer trucks function as hybrids. A special trailer chassis and remote hybrid helper provide multiple levels of regenerative braking and energy storage. The stored energy is then used to boost fully loaded tractor trailer combos up hills, or to start-up in problem smog zones, such as port facilities, with reduced emissions. The new version would make these huge monsters a lot more eco-friendly by converting them in to far more fuel efficient vehicles. It also helps reduce the emissions.

In the HSTA concept, electric motor-generators are integrated into the trailer chassis’ tandem wheel axles. Similar to a hybrid car, the motor generators produce electricity via regenerative braking instead of normal friction brakes. A bank of batteries can be mounted under the trailer chassis to store this energy. This stored energy can be used when additional energy is required. This really makes these gigantic wheels a lot greener and tech savvy!
