Ford’s plant in Cologne achieved a production landmark today with the roll out of the two million vehicles of the Ford Fiesta/Fusion lineup since February 2002. The two millionth vehicle was a Colorado Red Ford Fiesta intended for a customer in Britain. Fiesta seems to be on a roll throughout the world, of the two million vehicles, seventy-four percent were Fiestas.
The plant at Cologne is considered to be amongst the most efficient plants. Nearly 90% of the vehicles produced were for export. Vehicles from the plant are exported to nearly 52 countries. The largest markets are Great Britain, Germany, Italy, France and Russia; though the cars from Cologne travel as far as the Pacific island of Tahiti.
When production of the Fiesta and Fusion series began in 2002, an investment of €410 million was made for modernization of the plant and development of infrastructure. Production started at 1,200 vehicles a day and today it stands at 1,950 vehicles.
