Volkswagen has unveiled its latest concept, the Up! The company sees this concept in the same league as the Beetle and Golf, with an entirely new range likely to be built around this concept. Frankfurt Motor Show will be a testing ground for this concept, where reactions of visitors will be noted.
Up! stands 3.45 meters in length and 1.63 meters in width. This concept has the ’smiling face’ design that was hot with the Beetle. With the engine in the rear, the Up! does away with the radiator grille, and the front gets a distinguishable look.
Headlamps take an inward and diagonal line with air vents arranged horizontally between them. The chrome VW logo stands in the center. Tailgate for the Up! was produced from transparent material. Under this material, designers put the tail lamps and the VW logo, giving Up! a new, chic look. The logo shines whenever the taillights light up. Riding on 18-inch wheels, the concept does look graceful.
Up! remains spacious and comfortable. All seats, except the driver seat in the concept can be folded and stacked away! To make seating comfortable in this four-seater, a very innovative method is used. Air can be sucked out of the seat surface by means of a valve, allowing a 1:1 adjustment to the body of the occupant.
There’s a host of controls in the Up! A 7-inch touchscreen with proximity sensor can be used to control the navigation, radio, trip computer and climate control. An 8-inch monitor in the cockpit shows the vehicle speed, fuel level and even momentary CO2 emissions.
Up! surely does impress and with its innovative design and technology, we’d give it an up. It would be great to see vehicles inspired by this concept on the road.
