Volkswagen is all set to launch a convertible version of its Scirocco coupe. This coupe-cabriolet version is likely to give some tough time to the likes of the Porsche Boxster and the Audi TT Roadster.
Its sibling, the hard top version will hit the US market by the middle of the coming year and it looks that it is derived directly out of the dazzling IROC concept which made its appearance in the Paris Motor Show earlier in 2006.
Chassis for the upcoming car is coming right out of the hot Eos coupe-cabriolet, and the company is likely to hit the market with the CC version by 2009.
The convertie is still going through considerations and there’s time left for a nod from the officials.
This coupe’s design embraces a high waistline and a low front which helps to accommodate a complex folding hood mechanism.
Front for both the versions is almost identical with the same divergent grille and a pair of neat headlamps.
The all impressive Scirocco coupe can be transformed into an astounding convertible just in a matter of seconds leaving the car with a clean rear deck. The convertible comes with strong safety credentials; a pair of carefully integrated roll-over hoops is slotted right behind the seats for extra protection.
The roof apparatus is slotted in the rear seats and once the hood gets on to work it unveils an ample boot space. The car also comes with decent luggage space.
From the matter of looks, it seems that the IROC concept has its roots vested in the original Scirocco which first made its appearance back in 1974. VW never came up with the cabrio version for the car.
In fact, some independent coachbuilders such as Beiber from Germany came up with their own soft top versions which became an instant hit with the buyers.
But as the company analyzed the success rate of the CC-style models in the past, the company surely seems motivated to try its hands with the CC-style models.
Now we will have to wait and watch for the Scirocco cabrio to make its debut at the next year’s major motor shows.
