With the debut of the Passat CC at Detroit, VW has announced that its next stop will be Chicago for the debut of the Routan van. This van has been developed with the collaboration of Chrysler LLC. The name aims at displaying the American and German connections of this van. ‘Route’ is an English word and the suffix -an comes from the European vans, Touran and Sharan. The philosophy behind the name doesn’t sound convincing enough, it appears more like a jumble-up. If Volkswagen had to coin a new word, they surely could have come up with something more creative.

Nevertheless, VW says the vehicle has been developed
specifically with the US in mind. The appearance, technology and functionality, have been developed to adapt to the North American market. This seven-seater will go more than five-meters in length, providing comfort for those traveling and a good amount of cargo space as well.
