volvo hybrid for 2012

On its way to green driving, Volvo has announced that the automaker will have production diesel-electric hybrids on the road by 2012. Volvo’s collaboration with the Swedish utility Vattenfall saw the unveiling of the ReCharge concept back in 2007 and now the automaker plans three new V70 plug-in hybrids for testing on the European roads.

It is notable that Volvo has skirted past the conventional gasoline-electric hybrids and decided to go for diesel-electric hybrids instead, which may potentially have greater fuel efficiency than the upcoming competing models. Using the test vehicles, Volvo will determine the driving habits, preferences and demands of the potential customers. On its part, Vattenfall will test the vehicles for high-speed home charging and public charging places similar to fuel stations.
