Paolo Corcagnani, a German designer created the Bluetrain 21, a concept vehicle for the 4th Peugeot Design Contest. It can be controlled by means of an X-Box console and combines futuristic virtual racing with motorsports heritage. Ain’t it interesting? More would follow after a li’le jump,

1. Paolo, can you please give our readers a brief biographical sketch about yourself?
Paolo: I was born and raised in Germany. My parents are Italians, I consider myself as European. I never liked flags, borders or restrictions. I studied industrial design in Essen, Germany but always designed cars, too. After my studies I worked both in the fields of transportation and industrial design, for example when I was designing sunglasses at Ic!berlin I thought of cars and other mobile objects. I always liked to mix up things, currently I’m working as an industrial designer at teams design, Esslingen.
2. Are you looking forward to tie up with some video game developers with respect to your Bluetrain 21 concept, down the line?
Paolo: I would prefer to tie up with a car company with respect to the blutrain concept -or with any other company that would like to break the borders between video games and real cars.

3. Your favorite car companies are?
Paolo: Fiat group, Dacia, Willy`s overland, Sony (...?)
4. What are the emerging trends in the field of Transportation designing?
Paolo: I’m currently not into this topic since I’m focused on industrial design but as far as I’m concerned I noticed three main trends:
01- The latest concepts from Nissan, Mazda and Honda could be grouped into the topic -
‘bionic | asia’
02- Bmw`s x6 concept is heading towards a melting pot consisting of beautiful feminine attibutes and raw suv style -
‘beauty vs. beast’
03- According to the global concern about environment there is a strong move towards intelligent conceptual solutions. They are furthermore fuelled by latest technology and might therefore be called -
‘virtureal’

5. What type of rendering do you like most and why?
Paolo: A rendering should be a visible though I don`t have any preferences concerning techniques/tools as long as the content/information gets displayed in the best way possible.
6. What is innovation to you - design, technology or the creative processes itself?
Paolo: I personally think that we shouldn’t stop thinking forward.
Technological progress alone does not lead to new solutions, it needs a vision, a goal and a concrete shape which all come from a designer`s mind.

7. Concepts of auto designers are ahead of its time, in the sense that the designs have futuristic undertone, what do you have to say in this regard?
Paolo: I personally think (+hope) that the gap between vision and market acceptance will become smaller in future. The next generations grow into a world that is used to technology, global thoughts and fast paced innovation.
8. Do you have a signature style? If yes, what are the hallmarks of the style?
Paolo: I don`t have a signature style since every project needs its own language in order to work in the best possible way and apart from that I’m still learning.

9. What work are you seeing right now that’s blowing you away?
Paolo: I phone, Ducati 1098.
10. Where do you find yourself in array of the upcoming designers? What do you think, future holds for you?
Paolo: Hopefully an open minded team + environment and the opportunity to be part of it.

11. Finally, we’d like to have your views on Auto Motto?
Paolo: Thank you for this opportunity. I appreciate your interest, since the bluetrain concept was not styled in terms of design but was only ‘made visible’. It might therefore not be as attractive as a pure styling project.

What comes to your mind when I say the following:
You have been influenced by?
Paolo: Leonardo da Vinci, Francisco Goya, Stefan Lengyel, Fabian Hofman (whiteout-glare).
What would you prefer AutoCAD or Rhinoceros 3D? And why?
Paolo: Currently: rhino. Works well for most tasks in the design process.

What is the best moment of the day?
Paolo: The night!
Who would you like to design something for?
Paolo: A motorcycle for apple.
If given a week’s holidays, how would you spend them?
Paolo: Sleep, tidy up my flat, bike-tour with friends.

Thank you Paolo for sparing out time in doing an interview with us, it is greatly appreciated; also I’d like to wish you luck for all your future endeavors.

Paolo Corcagnani Kudos!
The concept images that this guy has come up with seem to be just amazing.
The interview questions are very informed, but the answers are more amazing. Pithy, that’s the essence.
But I’m more interested in the thing that he’s got going on his chin. That’s just wicked! Hell with what my friends would think, I’m getting one of those.
