For the fans of DeLorean, this week couldn’t have gone better. After staying out of the show for 25 long years, DeLorean has announced a comeback. GM showed its faith in the upcoming Chevrolet Volt, and announced the production of 60,000 cars for Volt’s first year.

‘Back to the Future’ will become a reality in the present:
After remaining out of showrooms for 25 years, the DeLorean marque will finally be back next year. These cars were made famous by the ‘Back to the Future’ movies. Cars will be manufactured by the renewed DeLorean Motor Co. The cars will be built by hand at a facility in Humble, Texas.

will cost nearly $57,500 per car, with nearly 80% parts being the original components dating back to the early 80s. Engine of the car will get more powerful and the interiors will be changed to suit tastes of the day, the exterior, however, will be very similar to the original cars. These cars will be kind of special-edition, as only 24 cars will roll out every year.

GM bets on Chevy Volt:
GM has shown faith in its upcoming Li-ion powered Chevrolet Volt by announcing a production of 60,000 Chevrolet Volts in the first year. The high figures of production will help GM keep costs low and the Volt may sell for less than $30,000. GM hopes to begin tests early next year and put the car on the road in 2010.

Analysts say that GM has set a lofty target and may have troubles keeping up. The Lithium-ion battery technology, though being seen as the future of plug-in cars, is not very advanced. Keeping in mind the problems Toyota has faced with its Li-ion batteries in Prius, we sure hope GMs plan for Volt don’t suffer a setback.
