It was three on three for Citroen’s Sebastien Loeb at the Spanish Edition of the World Rally Championship, profoundly known as the Catalunya Rally in the north of Spain.
Loeb finished first ahead of teammate Daniel Sordo and archrival Marcus Gronholm to close the lead within six points of the current WRC leader Gronholm. With just four races remaining this season and the point difference reduced to six, this battle is on for sure.
Understanding the importance of this victory Loeb cited:
I needed to win this to keep my title hopes alive. If I can do this again on the next round, then we have a better chance of taking our fourth consecutive world title, which is obviously a big ambition of mine.
Loeb hopes to continue performing in this fashion; the pressure though would be added and both Loeb and Gronholm would be feeling it. Whoever comes on top at the final edition in Britain would be crowned this year’s champion. Loeb has done it thrice so the experience will definitely help, but since he is trailing on the leaders’ board, Gronholm might just drive home the advantage.
